A Vision of the Future of Jungian Typology
What is our vision for the future of Socionics in the world? Here’s my vision:
Professional coaches, therapists, and organizational development consultants using the principles of Socionics in their day-to-day work– around the world
Groups of lay people all over the world, studying amongst themselves, coaching and helping each other, constantly bringing in new people and teaching them the principles. Meeting online and in person. The principles continually spreading.
How do we get there?
‘Pan-Jungian Typing Games’-- a global competition to see whose model of Jungian type discernment works best. All comers: MBTI partisans, Socionics enthusiasts, ‘unaffiliated’ Jungian type thinkers. The rules are simple: each team has two or more ‘squads’ who interview (in person) a subject of unknown type. In a sealed room, the first squad conducts their interview, then confers like a jury in a separate room, then a second interview is done, with the subject and the squad discussing the video of session 1. The squad then reviews all the data collected and comes to their consensus: ‘This person is ET-S (Extraverted Thinker, Sensing type)’. Then the second squad (obviously rigorously sequestered from the first squad) goes through the same process with the same subject.
After hundreds of competitions around the world there could be a three-day competition with multiple teams and multiple subjects. The NYC group fields a team of two 8-person squads that interviews 9 subjects across three days. In all 9 cases, the two squads come to the same conclusion, and the team takes home the top prize.
The games are conducted in such a way that the data gathered (from many competitions across the world) is able to be used by a doctoral student and their advisor to write a paper, which is published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
A world conference is held. A number of decisions are made, by a democratic process:
What is this typing framework going to be called? ‘Socionics’ is a strong candidate, but likely will not be the only one
What documents will serve as the foundation for teaching and practicing? In other words, how will these principles be put down in writing (in the major languages)
What will be the governance approach, for the world organization that will tie together the regional ones?
Thousands of young MBTI enthusiasts become students of the principles of Socionics. Same with the Enneagram.
Thousands of coaches and consultants (many of them stalwart MBTI practitioners) and therapists turn to the principles of Socionics for insights to use in their work. Many of these professionals are hired by sizeable corporations, but also churches, schools, political groups
The world is transformed, as the visions of Jung and A. Augusta start to become reality.
